Subject: Hillary, Netanyahu Speaks

Subject: Hillary Clinton is under question today after the NY Times reported that she used only a personal email account, contrary to federal regulation, during the four years she was secretary of state. Clinton didn’t even have a government email account.

The Federal Records Acts would have required the preservation of all her emails, but, according to the paper, that wasn’t done until two months ago. Clinton said she did nothing wrong, but this is certain to be one of those “Clinton” character issues if she runs for president.

Bibi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received two standing ovations when he entered Congress to speak this morning. In his opening remarks he said, “I know that my speech has been the subject of much controversy. I deeply regret that some see my being here as political.” His address is expected to last about 45 minutes.

Politics: House Speaker John Boehner says he will present a clean bill to Congress to fund the Department of Homeland Security, giving up his attempt to attach DHS funding to crippling President Obama’s immigration reform. That means that in one week Boehner has been beaten by his own party and the president.

Nation: A federal judge in Nebraska ruled that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional in a ruling that would allow the couples to marry within a week. The state quickly filed for appeal and Gov. Pete Ricketts said in a statement, “The definition of marriage is an issue for the people of Nebraska, and an activist judge should not substitute his personal political preferences for the will of the people.”

>Local authorities and the FBI are investigating the heist of $4.8 million worth of gold Sunday night in North Carolina. The drivers of an armored car carrying gold and silver say they pulled over with mechanical trouble, got out of the truck, and were jacked by three men who arrived in a white van. Our guess is there’s much more to this story.

World: One of the most active volcanoes in South America erupted in southern Chile today, spewing smoke and flowing lava, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people. The volcano towers above the city of Pucon, which has a population of about 22,000 people.

>The Iraqi government fight to re-take the city of Tikrit from the Islamic State is going slowly. It’s a test for what the Iraqis can do without direct American support.

Attica! Attica!: Three guards at New York’s State’s notorious Attica prison abruptly pleaded guilty on the brink of trial for the vicious beating of an inmate in 2011. Despite inmate complaints that beatings are common, this case was the first time felony charges were brought against guards in a non-sexual assault on an inmate. The NY Times did a long story about the case on Sunday.

The day he was beaten former inmate George Williams, 32, was suspected of shouting an obscenity at the guards. He was left with two broken legs, broken ribs, and broken bones in his face. The guards pleaded to a misdemeanor and agreed to resign their jobs.

Georgia Execution: The execution of a woman on Georgia’s death row was put on hold last night for last-minute appeals to the Supreme Court and because of questions about the quality of the drug that was to be used to kill her. The vial of pentobarbital looked cloudy and the prison was unable to get more last night.

Kelly Renee Gissendaner, 46, who was to be the first woman executed in Georgia since World War II, convinced her boyfriend to kill her husband. The boyfriend was sentenced to life in prison, but will be eligible for parole in eight years.

Newsroom News: Variety reports that former NBC News president Andrew Lack is in discussions to return to the job in a potential management shakeup at the news network. Current president Deborah Turness, who’s British, has been accused of bungling the Brian Williams situation and other lesser scandals and crises at NBC. It’s difficult to read whether this is groundwork for Williams’ return or for a permanent departure.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
