Royal Labor, China Earthquakes

The Happiest Days: Catherine the Duchess of Windsor checked into the hospital undergoing normal labor, according to an announcement from Kensington Palace. The child will be third in line for the British throne.

World: Two powerful earthquakes shook central China outside Dingxi City, killing at least 75 people and injuring 400. The area was hit first by a 5.98 quake and then by a 5.6 just about an hour later. Reports say 380 homes collapsed and 5,600 are damaged.

>Panamanian authorities have found two 1950s Mig 21 fighter jets in the hold of the North Korean freighter seized while passing through the Panama canal. This in addition to two old missiles systems already found in a shipment of sugar. Cuba says all the Soviet-made weapons, which are too obsolete to fight against any current weapons, were being sent to North Korea for repairs. Cuba had originally told Panama that the ship was carrying a donation of sugar for North Korea.

>Dubai has “pardoned” a Norwegian woman who was jailed for drinking alcohol and having sex outside of marriage after she reported being raped by a colleague. Marta Dalelv went public with her plight after she had been given a 16-month sentence, three months longer than her attacker. He was also pardoned by the government.

National: East Cleveland Authorities arrested a 35-year-old registered sex offender after finding the bodies of three women wrapped in plastic. They are believed to have been killed within the last ten days. Police responding to a report of foul odor coming from an abandoned house found one body in the garage and two outside. They are searching for more.

The Sports Page: Golfer Phil Mickelson came from 8th place and five strokes behind in the final round to win the British Open by three strokes. He said it was one of the finest rounds of golf he has ever played.

>British rider Chris Froome won the Tour de France. It’s the second win in a row for the Brits, but in the wake of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal, Froome has faced a lot of questions about whether he ran a clean race.

Weekend Box: The summer doldrums continue with big budget flops. The $130 million science fiction flic “R.I.PD.” took in just $12.73 million. The budget horror pic “The Conjuring” was number one at $41.5 million. “Despicable Me 2” was second and way down at fourth was “Red 2”, an adventure movie for the Cialis set starring Bruce Willis, John Malkovitch and Helen Mirren. The take of $18.5 was probably less than the actors’ salaries. In the way, way back at #13 is “The Way, Way Back” a movie reported by our sources to be worth seeing.
