Dems Angry With Comey, Chicago Police Thugs

Federal Case: After a briefing on Russian hackers by the intelligence chiefs, Democratic congressional leaders are furious that FBI director James Comey, who spoke openly about the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email, wouldn’t say whether his agency is investigating whether there was communication between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former head of the Democratic National Committee, demanded to know why the FBI never called to tell her they knew the DNC computers had been hacked.

Democrats walked out of the meeting. Rep. Adam B. Schiff, Democrat of California, said “a great many members are concerned with whether the director has employed a double standard.” Georgia’s Rep. John Lewis said, “I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president.”

Police Beat: The Chicago police force has routinely used excessive force and violated the rights of citizens according to a scathing report issued yesterday by the Justice Department.

The report gives incidents of suspects shot in the back or being tasered and beaten after they have already been subdued.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch had hurried to get the report out before the change in administrations in Washington next week. “The systems and policies that fail ordinary citizens also fail the vast majority of Chicago Police Department officers who risk their lives every day to serve and protect the people of Chicago,” Lynch said.

The announcement comes just one day after the Baltimore PD was put under federal supervision. Investigation and supervision of police departments has been a well-used tool by the Obama administration, but Lynch’s successor-to-be, Sen. Jeff Sessions, has said during his confirmation hearings that the cops have been getting a bad rap.

Poor Health: House Republicans have joined the Senate in approving a bill that will begin dismantling Obamacare through a budget process that cannot be blocked with a filibuster by the Democrats. Despite promises by the Republicans that they won’t pull the healthcare rug from under that nation’s feet, they have no replacement for it.

Wet Foot, Dry Foot: In a move to improve relations with the Cuban government, President Obama has ended the policy that allows Cuban migrants who reach dry land in the US to stay in the country. The policy known as “wet foot, dry foot” turned away migrants still on water, but welcomed those who reached land.

Nation: The Takata airbag company has agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud and pay $1 billion in fines and restitution because of killer flaws in the company’s product. Three former Takata executives also were indicted for covering up the flaw in their product. Takata airbags expelled shrapnel that killed 16 people, 11 of them in the US.

Arizona Trooper: In an incident that will surely encourage the “good guy” gun-carrying movement, an Arizona trooper was saved from possible death by a passing motorist who killed the man who had shot and was beating the trooper.

The trooper, Edward Andersson, was driving to investigate a report of shots fired along the freeway when he stopped for a car rolled over in the ditch. Andersson was shot in the right shoulder then wrestled to the ground. A passing motorist asked Andersson if he needed help, then went back to his car, retrieved a gun, and shot the attacker.

The Obit Page: William Peter Blatty, the novelist who wrote the bestseller “The Exorcist” that became a popular scary movie, has died at age 89. Blatty won an Oscar for turning his book about a girl possessed by the devil into a screenplay. Vomit and a twisting head. Moviegoers loved it.

>Levi Felix might be disappointed to hear that news of his death has been sent to you on a computer or cellphone. Felix, 32, was the co-founder of Digital Detox, an organization dedicated to breaking computer and cellphone addiction.

Felix once worked 70 hours a week for a tech startup, but it nearly killed him and he quit. He said, “I love that technology connects us and is taking our civilization to the next level, but we have to learn how to use it, and not have it use us.”

New Look: The US Mint announced plans to issue a $100 commemorative gold coin with a black woman featured as Lady Liberty, the first time anyone non-white is depicted on US currency. The coin might say $100 on it, but it will sell for $1200. No guess what the street value might be.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
