Co-Pilot Crashed It, Bergdahl Charged

Deliberate Air Crash: The co-pilot of the Germanair flight that crashed in the French alps Tuesday deliberately drove the plane into the ground, investigators say.

Brice Robin, the chief prosecutor in Marseilles said, “The interpretation we can give at this time is that the co-pilot through voluntary abstention refused to open the door of the cockpit to the commander, and activated the button that commands the loss of altitude.”

Voice recordings tell investigators that the pilot left the cockpit and the co-pilot silently refused to let him back in. The pilot could be heard pounding and trying to break down the reinforced security door to the cockpit. “You can hear the commanding pilot ask for access to the cockpit several times,” the prosecutor said. He said that the co-pilot could be heard breathing until the moment of impact, which indicates that the co-pilot was alive.

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."
