Rubio Says “DOA”, Facebook Hacked

National: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio pronounced the President’s immigration plan “dead on arrival”, although the President’s immigration plan has yet been revealed. One report says the plan would give illegal immigrants an eight-year path to citizenship.   

  • Facebook announced that its system had been hacked, but claims no user information was compromised. This comes just a few weeks after Twitter announced a similar hacker attack.

Mountain Woman: American skier Mikaela Shiffrin at age 17 became the youngest female world slalom champion in 28 years. The win makes her the favorite to win gold in next winter’s Olympics. She is a high school student at Burke Mountain Academy, a school for skiers, in Vermont.

World:  At least 15 people are dead in Baghdad after a series of car bombs went off in Shiite areas of the city. Violence is on the uptick in Baghdad. In Pakistan Saturday, 81 people died in the bombing of a Shiite market area in Quetta.

  • A published report says Oscar Pistorius girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was in the bathroom when shots were fired through the door.  Police also found a bloody cricket bat. Reports say they are investigating a theory that Pistorius fired one shot in the bedroom, and three through the bathroom door. The newspaper report said Pistorius dragged Steenkamp downstairs and was attempting mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when security arrived.

Meanwhile, a South African television network went ahead and aired a reality show filmed in Jamaica prominently featuring the dead model. Steenkamp’s family did not object because she had told them she wanted them to see the show, Tropika Island of Treasure Steenkamp says during the show, “I think the way that you go out, not just your journey in life, but the way that you go out and the way you make your exit is so important.”

Playtime: The New Jersey firefighters union plans to build 26 new playgrounds as memorials for the 20 children and six teachers killed in the Newtown massacre. The playgrounds will be built in the New Jersey, New York and Connecticut areas hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy. It will cost about $2 million.

Not Monty Python: Florida’s great Everglades Burmese Python hunt has ended with the capture 68 of the snakes, a disappointing number because there may be as many as 150,000 of them slithering around Florida. They are an invasive species that kill native wildlife, including deer. And, we should add, a female can carry anywhere from 30 to 80 eggs. Maybe they should have had an egg hunt.
